Today kids are no longer kids & are growing up much too fast. I have a son so I haven’t had to deal with the ’sexy clothing’ issue.

It’s definitely true that is up to the parent who makes the final decision to purchase the items.

Unfortunately advertisers continually bombard us & know that if that child really wants, they will continually be at the parent to buy…& some parents just give up in frustration to keep the peace… but at what cost. These kids also suffer from peer pressure from their friends & want to fit in so of course want to be wearing what they wear etc.

What a fantastically well written post and so timely given the latest drama in the news! I so agree we need people to be openly discussing and debating these issues simply because children needs us to. I shall return!

Thank you Selena. Just as discussed in my previous post, we must move beyond our own “electric fences” and when we see something that does not seem right, we must speak up. I really do think more and more people are now starting to say “Enough!”

Great post Danni. I think it’s important, especially during the Bill Henson debate, for parents and ‘ordinary’ people (who aren’t art critics or glamour celebrities) to trust in their own instincts and not be silenced with suggestions that they’re ignorant, uncultured, or prudish. Blogs like yours give people confidence and bolster their resources of words, facts and ideas to speak up. Thanks!

I have to wonder sometimes how the people that make these adds or dolls or images can sleep at night. No wonder there was an article in our paper this week saying that children as young as 6 are being admitted to hospital with severe eating disorders – as in, we-have-to-force-feed-them severe – not good, not good at all. :S

I just read Catherine Lumby’s latest fluff.

She said “School uniforms may well titillate pedophiles and prompt them to commit crimes. But is banning school uniforms the correct response?”

Ummmmm…..yes it is. But not for the school girls who legitimately wear a school uniform TO SCHOOL.

But for the pornographers who want to dress adult women in school uniforms to represent them as teenagers..yes, this should be banned.

I remember being approached by “promo girls” working for a pub, giving out vouchers. They were dressed in school uniforms. What the…?
