This post really touched my heart Danni .... We are really so blessed living here in OZ. I salute our sisters all over the world who fight for what we consider our birth rights. We must support them and ensure our daughters empower themselves to continue the fight for equal rights, freedoms and power. One organisation I give money to is KIVA (www.kiva.org) - I loan individuals and groups of women, sums of $25US to begin businesses all over the developing world. The money is then repaid to me and I get to loan it again to another group of women doing it for themselves!! You go girls!

Interesting stats from Kiva = 82% of the loans are to women, $80 million has been loaned, 98.5% of the loans have been repaid. I now give this as a Christmas present to my family!! What a way to support women. xx

Danni, your words are a real reminder for me that even though equal rights for women have come so far in our country, the fight for equality is far from over. As a woman with many rights and resources, I feel inspired to take some action to help women around the world who still have greater battles to fight. We must believe that even the smallest effort can make a difference. When my grandmother migrated here, she left behind a town in the south of Italy destroyed by earthquake. Soon after arriving here she was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to become a seamstress for a clothing manufacturer. She has often told me that the right to work and earn a wage gave her a sense of accomplishment, financial independence and empowerment. Inspired by both your blog and my grandmother’s history I bought a sewing machine and the appropriate training in tailoring and business management for a widow in Afghanistan today (through the Mahboba’s Promise organisation). Just by visiting the many organisations you have listed I have realised there are so many easy, small and different ways to help empower women worldwide, this way just resonated with me. Thank you for inspiring me!
